Between 1825 and 2000, about 1 million Norwegians emigrated to overseas destinations. Seen as a percent of the total population, no other European country except Ireland had such large numbers of emigrants. Because of this massive movement, the size of the "Norwegian" ethnic group worldwide easily surpasses the population of the old country itself. In the United States, for example, 3.9 million people indicated on the 1990 census that they had ethnic roots in Norway. As a Scandinavian destination specialist, Brekke Tours offers a variety of general interest escorted tour packages, heritage and customized tour packages, as well as F.I.T. NF seeks to strengthen cultural and personal ties between Norway and Norwegians abroad, as well as their descendants and friends of Norway throughout the world. NF has members and chapters around the world. Membership is open to all persons. The Center for Innovation at the University of North Dakota was among the first entrepreneur outreach centers in the nation when formed in 1984. The Center provides assistance to innovators, entrepreneurs, and researchers to launch new ventures, commercialize new technologies, and secure access to capital from private and public sources.
